Rates checked November 2026 against Etsy's published US fee policy. Etsy adjusts fees from time to time — treat the result as a close estimate when you price a listing.

The three fees on every Etsy sale

Listing fee — $0.20. Charged the moment a listing is published, and again at each renewal. A listing runs for four months or until it sells, so the 20 cents is really rent on the shelf space. It sounds trivial until a shop carries 200 slow listings renewing three times a year — that is $120 a year before a single sale.

Transaction fee — 6.5%. Charged on the item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer. Gift wrap and other buyer-paid extras count too. On a $50 item with $6 shipping, the fee is 6.5% of $56, which is $3.64 — not the $3.25 sellers often assume.

Payment processing — 3% + $0.25. Charged on the entire payment Etsy processes: price, shipping, and the sales tax collected on the order. The flat 25 cents is why very cheap items are disproportionately expensive to sell — on a $3 item, processing alone eats more than 11% before the transaction fee is counted.

Altogether, a straightforward $50 sale with no shipping charge and no tax costs $5.20: the $0.20 listing fee, $3.25 of transaction fee, and $1.75 of processing. You keep $44.80 — about 89.6% of the price — before your materials and postage.

The fourth fee: Offsite Ads

Etsy advertises listings across Google, social media and partner sites. When a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, that order carries an Offsite Ads fee of 15% of the price plus shipping — or 12% if your shop has made $10,000 or more in the past year. Shops under the $10,000 line can opt out; shops over it cannot. The fee stacks on top of the regular three, so an ad-driven $50 sale keeps about $37.30 instead of $44.80. Whether that is a bad deal depends on whether the sale would have happened anyway — for a brand-new shop it can be genuine discovery; for an item buyers find through search regardless, it is a heavy toll. Price with the possibility in mind: a product that only profits if no ad fee ever lands is priced too thin.

Fees are not profit

As with every marketplace, "you keep" is before your real costs. Enter what the item cost you (materials, blanks, packaging) and what you actually pay to post it, and the calculator shows the profit line. Digital sellers sometimes skip this step because their costs feel like zero — but listing renewals, the design software subscription, and the hours spent are costs too, even if only the renewals fit in a box here. A useful habit: check the profit figure at your planned price, then again with the Offsite Ads option on. If the second number is negative, the price — not the fee — is the problem.

Frequently asked questions

What fees does Etsy charge per sale?

Three on every US sale: a $0.20 listing fee (per listing, lasting four months), a 6.5% transaction fee on price plus shipping, and payment processing of 3% plus $0.25 on the total including tax. A $50 sale with no shipping or tax costs $5.20 all-in.

What is Etsy's Offsite Ads fee?

If a buyer arrives through an Etsy ad placed on another site and buys within 30 days, Etsy adds 15% (shops under $10,000 a year; optional — you can opt out) or 12% (shops at $10,000+, mandatory) on that order, on top of the normal fees.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee covers price plus shipping charged, and processing covers the full payment including shipping and tax.

When is the $0.20 listing fee charged?

At publication and at each four-month renewal, whether the item sells or not. Selling an item and relisting it starts a new $0.20 listing.
