Rates checked November 2026 against Depop's published US fee structure. Platforms change fees from time to time — treat the result as a close estimate when you price a listing.
The selling fee is zero — processing is not
Depop made a headline change in 2024: for US sellers, the old 10% selling fee is gone. What remains is the charge every card payment carries — payment processing at 3.3% of the total payment (price + shipping + tax) plus $0.45. On a $50 sale that comes to $2.10, and the seller keeps $47.90. Compare that with the same sale elsewhere — $45.00 kept on Mercari, about $44.80 on Etsy, $42.80 on eBay, $40.00 on Poshmark — and Depop is, on seller fees alone, the cheapest major place to sell in the US.
Two qualifications keep that headline honest. First, the cost did not vanish; much of it moved to the buyer, who may see Depop's own buyer protection and service charges added at checkout. A buyer comparing your $50 Depop listing with a $50 listing elsewhere sees totals, not your net — so a slice of Depop's fee advantage can be handed back in the price buyers are willing to pay. Second, the 45-cent flat part of processing means very cheap items still lose a noticeable slice: a $5 sale pays $0.62 in processing, over 12% of the price.
Boosting: the fee you choose
Boosting lifts a listing in Depop's search results, and it costs 12% of the item price if the boosted listing sells. Twelve percent is not pocket change — on a $50 item it is $6.00, nearly three times the processing fee, and it turns Depop's cheapest-in-class $2.10 total into $8.10, suddenly more than eBay's standard take. That does not make Boosting a bad idea; it makes it a decision. Boost the stale, high-margin, in-demand piece that needs eyes. Do not leave it switched on across a whole shop of slow items, where it quietly taxes the sales that would have happened anyway. Tick the Boosting box above and look at the difference before you decide on any given listing.
Fees are not profit
Keeping $47.90 of $50 is the platform story; the profit story needs your costs. Vintage and thrift resellers sometimes treat a $4 rack find as "basically free" — until postage, packaging, and the boosted sale are counted. Fill in what the item cost you and what you pay to ship it, and the calculator adds the profit line. Depop's low fees mean more items survive that test than on other platforms, which is precisely why the fee change pulled so many fashion sellers across. Just remember the buyer's side of the ledger when you set the price: all-in cost is what the buyer compares, and it includes the fees Depop shows them, not only the ones it shows you.
Frequently asked questions
Does Depop charge a selling fee?
Not in the US — the selling fee is 0%. Sellers pay payment processing of 3.3% plus $0.45 on the total payment, and nothing else unless they choose Boosting.
What is Depop Boosting and what does it cost?
An optional promotion that raises a listing in search results. It costs 12% of the item price, charged only when a boosted listing sells.
Who pays for shipping on Depop?
Usually the buyer, through Depop's prepaid label at checkout — or the seller, if the listing uses ship-your-own. Processing is charged on the total payment either way.
Why is Depop cheaper than eBay or Poshmark?
Depop moved much of the platform cost to buyer-side fees in 2024 and dropped the seller selling fee. Sellers keep more per sale, but buyers see higher checkout totals.
